Surge Secured Mastercard credit card: Build up your creditworthiness with a starting $300 deposit.
Whether you’re looking for your first credit card so that you can start building up your credit, or times have just been tough on you and you have to rebuild yours, the Surge Secured Mastercard credit card is certainly worth considering.
It does charge you an annual fee so that the bank can offset the risk it incurs by handing money to people with poor credit records. It also doesn’t offer rewards other than 1% cash back on all your purchases. But the card issuer does report to three major credit bureaus. Which means, if you’re a good payer, you’ll soon qualify for better offers.

How does the Surge Secured Mastercard credit card work?
This credit card was designed with limited or damaged credit individuals in mind. It’s named “Secured” because, as most credit cards aimed at subprime borrowers, it asks you for an upfront security deposit of at least $300 which becomes your initial credit limit.
After 6 months of paying your balance in full and on time, you might even apply for a credit limit increase. But it’s good to remember why you got this card in the first place, so that you never overspend or are ever late on your monthly payments.
To help you keep track of your credit score, the Surge Secured Mastercard credit card issuer files monthly reports to TransUnion, Equifax and Experian, and you get free access to your Vantage 3.0 score from the last of the three. This will keep you motivated on your quest to improve your credit score.
Surge Secured Mastercard credit card pros and cons
Here’s a quick list of pros and cons to make things simple.
- No excellent or good credit score required

Does my credit score need to be good?
